Ah yes, it's nice to be back! Everywhere I go people ask."Rog where did you go? Why did you leave the program?"
Well let me keep it brief for you. When we first started the program I had a great partner and we worked our hearts out. Schools loved the program but just couldn't afford to pay us what it was worth. Clearly we did it for the love of the youth and not for the money. But as we all know... love can't pay the bills! We tried to make it work but the more we worked the more schools wanted the program until we became overwhelmed. It became to increasingly difficult retain great workers who believed in the program but needed to make a living. So as we increased in popularity we decreased in staff. Our staff moved on, and the quality of our program suffered. I had to take a step back and regroup. I also worked on other projects, getting comfortable with the paycheck and putting the program on the back burner.
As time went on I missed the joy the program brought to all of the participants who had ever participated in the program. I took time to get past my own personal issues, learn about the business side of the program and re-tool the program to be effective for our families and youth.
So now we're back, with new programs, new supports, new partners, new teams, and a new outlook.
It feels great to be back to offer the program to new areas of the GTA.
Special thanks to Wendell Brerton for his guidance, LaToya Simpson for her patience, Jerry Chadwick for his honesty, and Sarah Shipley for her love and support.
I can't go any further without thanking my 1st and best partner in the world of Read2Rap - CARLA MAGNA. ( you will always be the heart and soul of this program.)
Bless.
